Ever run into a layer that you just couldn't export, delete, or maybe even reset without an error? There can be a few different causes, such as a file in the layer being locked. But there is one very consistent, reproducible, and easily avoided cause that I've identified -- our old friend Dr. Watson.

I work at a two year College. Before every semester I reimage all of the computers the students will be using. This semester I decided to jump feet first into software virtualization. That's right, almost every piece of software on the computer into a virtual layer. We are talking between 15 and 25 layers.

Here's a different twist on the process described by Olliebean in his article about autocapturing applications into SVS layers.
This technique requires a tool (attached to this article) but is a tad bit simpler to pull off IMHO.

Q: Lincoln asked, "we have OnPostActivate events in our layers, but they never run unless you manually de-activate and then re-activate the layers. All of our layers are set to start automatically. Shouldn't the OnPostActivate events run when SVS starts the layer during windows boot-up?"

In Part 4 of this Best Practices series I will discuss Exclusions.
When you start using SVS and virtualise, for example, Office 2003, you will encounter a very common problem. After creating or editing documents, you stop working and your pc.
