After many attempts, I have created a ThinApp package for IE6 SP1. I have deployed the package to some test machines with IE 7 & 8 Installed locally. The packaged version of IE6 is to be used for compatibility purposes with a select few intranet sites only. The sites have been included as favorites within the package.

Issue: Testers are reporting that when the ThinApp IE6 package has been started it behaves as the default web browser. i.e. when clicking on URLs within email messages the page will open in an new IE6 browser window. Once the IE6 is closed, the locally installed version of IE 7/8 will open the page (as per normal).

Some background... the TA package was build on win2k, post scan was completed selecting WriteCopy. Nearly all of the registry keys are fully isolated. I have tried to play around with ddeexec registry entries and still cannot fully isolate the packaged IE6 from the local copy.

i.e HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\htmlfile\shell\open\ddeexec

Has anyone run into this before? Is it possible to "fully" isolate version of IE with ThinApp?
